First 50 Cards !!!

Well, I finally feel a touch of victory :)  Dixie got my first batch of OWH cards today and I think she approves:)  Hurray!  I had a tough time getting them to her... my daughter ended up in the hospital unexpectedly,  the post office had computer problems...blah, blah, blah :)  but I finally got the box off to North Carolina !!!

Here are some pics of a few of my favs, and I hope you enjoy them.  They have all been tucked into white envelopes, so they may seem to have a strange background, but they were all ready for their trip and I didn't take time to redo the tucking.

Now...to get started on a batch for Christmas....I find I really like this card making:)

More later, have a blessed day,

Sherry

Update on first OWH cards

I haven't posted for quite a while...guess I keep thinking I need pictures or something!  I had set myself a goal of 25 cards for OWH, but I have been having so much fun making them that I exceeded my goal and have set it at 50 now :).....  and I'm only 10 away!  Trying to get them sent off so the Halloween ones will be on time.  I'll put some pics of my favorites here when all are done.

Hey maybe I could celebrate the big 5-0 by sending my first batch on my birthday tomorrow....ha ha ha ha ha ha ......eeeewwwwwww!  (Oh, well, better than the alternative :)

Anyway, have a blessed day till next time :)

Just Another Day....so far!!!

I've been working on my first batch of cards to send to Operation Write Home, and I'm getting close to done.  My goal is 25 cards, and I have 20 ready.

For this set, I decided to use things I hadn't pulled out in a while, and found some great papers and handmade embellies that I had forgotten.  I'm also finding goodies in my scrap bin that are perfect for these little projects.  You know you always have those scraps that are almost to small to use, but your brain says, "You just might be able to use that someday..." so you keep it.  Yep, got lots of that!

For instance, the cupcakes from my last post were the result of trying out tricks with my SCAL, but had no real purpose in mind.  Then I found OWH and suddenly the light clicked on!  Sadly, two have glitter, so no go.... but the one with the yellow flower is taking a little trip:)!!!

More later.....  have a blessed day :)

Cupcake Day part 2

While I'm on the subject of cupcakes, here's the result of some more of my brain activity- LOL!!!I love 3-D stickers, but I usually wish they were a different size or color, don't you? Well, I was gazing lovingly, ha ha, at some "La Petites" cupcakes from the Paper Studio that I have in my stash and an idea occurred (imagine that !!!) So I tried it, of course.

I opened up my Sure Cuts A Lot software and fired up my Cricut. I created these cupcakes (and amazed myself) by joining various shapes from the built-in library in SCAL. I ended up with three "frostings" and some candles (not shown here) by using clouds and raindrops from the weather category and also used a seashell (upside down), oval, and flower shape, all of which I distorted and/or twisted to suit me. The cake piece came from the basic shapes category and also got flipped!

The papers I used were all scraps, so only Hobby Lobby knows for sure what brands they might be... but now I can have cupcakes any size, anytime....YEA!!!!!!!!!!

I used ribbon, rickrack, glitter,Stickles, punches and SVGcuts files to decorate these. The pumpkin is from the September Afternoons collection at svgcuts.com

****IF YOU HAVE a Cricut and you've never heard of Sure Cuts A Lot... be sure to visit Mary and Leo at SVGcuts.com to learn more. They are so creative and helpful, and I know you will love their site as much as I do.

Happy cutting, and have a blessed day!

Cupcake Day

Yes, yes, I know I said mainly svg projects, but...these cupcakes are soooo cute! I found this one in an ad for imaginisce.com in Creating Keepsakes' July/August issue and I had to try it. Finally found it in the gallery but the instructions wouldn't load! So here's what I did...

To make one you need:
1- styrofoam ball - 2.5 in. size
1 - 12 x 2.5 in cardstock strip for wrapper
ribbon
36 (more or less) - 1/2 x 3 in. strips for frosting
1 - 2.5 in square paper scrap for each candle (cardstock seems too heavy for this)
white cotton string for candlewicks
glue gun (high temp works, but low temp sets faster)
Stickles

Step one.....
Score the wrapper strip at 1/2 in. intervals and fan fold. Join the ends to form a cupcake "wrapper" and glue styro ball inside, leaving about half of it sticking out at the top. This is where you will "frost" the cupcake.

Next...begin to add the "frosting" in rows, starting at the wrapper edge and working up to the center top. I sortof wrapped the pieces around my finger so I wouldn't flatten them while I waited for the glue to set. I also found that placing them at a slight angle helps to cover tha ball better. Work around and up till you have only a small area left on top. This is where you will place the candles.

Roll a 2.5 in. square tightly and glue edge. I used a tiny knitting needle to do this and placed some glue near the inside starting edge, to help stop any slipping. Put some glue on a short piece of the cotton string and insert at one end of the candle, then trim the excess.

Put a small mound of hot glue on top of the cupcake and insert the candles, holding them at the angle you like till they set. Then use a few more frosting strips to make lops (like the ones you might make for a paperchain at Christmas) and fill in around the candles to hide the rest of the styro ball.

When all the glue is well cooled and set tie ribbon around the wrapper, making sure you make the knot land on the prettiest side of your cupcake:) Put a dot of Stickles on each loop of frosting to add sparkle and Voila!!! You have a darling cupcake to give someone special or just to keep on your desk to make you smile!

Have a cupcake... and a very blessed day :)

Day One

Well, here I am in the middle of the night, working on this again. I can't seem to decide what it is exactly that I want to do with this page. I've seen some really cool blogs with great banners at the top and matching backgrounds to die for, but I have no clue where or how to get them! I like this background but I need a great banner to top it off with. Guess I'll keep looking, but for now this is just kindof plain.

The plan for this blog is still unclear to me...like a foggy dream you can't remember when you wake up, but I will get that worked out soon, too, I hope.

I hope to feature projects made primarily with svg cut files...my favorites are from svgcuts.com... and show the how-to-do-it for them. Right now, that is all I can remember of the dream. I guess we'll just have to see if I can figure out the rest........

Have a blessed day!
